Current = a visa is available now. Unavailable = no numbers this month. ▲ moved forward vs. last month, ▼ moved back.

What is the U.S. visa bulletin?

The visa bulletin is a monthly report from the U.S. Department of State that shows which green card applicants can move forward, based on their priority date. Because Congress limits how many green cards are issued each year per category and per country, applicants in high-demand categories wait in line. The bulletin is how you find out whether your place in that line has been reached this month.

Final Action Dates vs. Dates for Filing — what's the difference?

Final Action Dates tell you when a green card can actually be approved. Dates for Filing tell you when you can submit your application paperwork, which is often earlier so your file is ready the moment a visa is available. Each month, USCIS announces which of the two charts adjustment-of-status applicants inside the U.S. should use — so always check that before you file.

How do I read the visa bulletin?

Find your category in the left column and read across to your country of chargeability (usually your country of birth). Compare the date listed to your priority date — the date your petition was filed. If your priority date is earlier than the date shown, your place in line has been reached. "Current" means no wait at all; "Unavailable" means no numbers this month.

Frequently Asked Questions

Common questions about the visa bulletin, priority dates, and reading the charts.

The visa bulletin is a monthly report from the U.S. Department of State that shows which green card applicants can move forward, based on their priority date. Because Congress caps green cards per category and per country each year, applicants from high-demand categories and countries often wait in line. The bulletin tells you whether your place in line has been reached.

Final Action Dates show when a green card can actually be approved — when your priority date is current here, a decision can be made. Dates for Filing show when you can submit your application paperwork, which can be earlier so your case is ready when a visa becomes available. Each month USCIS announces which of the two charts adjustment-of-status applicants should use.

Find your green card category (for example F2A for spouses of permanent residents, or EB-2 for advanced-degree workers) in the left column, then read across to your country of chargeability — usually your country of birth. Compare the date shown to your priority date (the date your petition was filed). If your priority date is earlier than the date listed, your place in line has been reached.
